R for Racism

When I recently watched “V for Vendetta,” I highly doubted whether the fiction movie had anything to do with Great Britain’s present politics. In fact, the movie was describing a scene that took place after United States’ fictional collapse.

It has been several weeks since I watched “V for Vendetta”, but now I am reading strange news in world newspapers that remind me of that movie. The world media report that a British politician is facing trouble for not being an Anglo-Saxon. He actually does speak English with British accent and I assume was born in Britain. The whole discourse is indeed his name, which sounds and is Muslim. But people who defend him say that he is “totally assimilated Greek-Armenian” (though his grandfather was Armenian and his grandmother was Greek).

There is no doubt that “totally assimilated Greek-Armenian” sounds more “acceptable” to these people than simply "a person whose grandfather was a Christian convert." Especially having the fact in mind that England’s first written document, The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, says that “The first inhabitants [of the British isles] were the Britons, who came from Armenia” (but don’t you dare to tell this to Anglo-Saxons!). But indeed even a Greek-Armenian is not “good enough.” It has to be “totally assimilated” to be “acceptable,” while “totally assimilated” Muslim-named-person is totally unacceptable for these racists.

One would expect Britain to be tolerant…

Race troubles British political party

LONDON, April 8 (UPI) — The British National Party faces a revolt over selecting the grandson of an asylum-seeker to stand for a Bradford ward in next month's local elections.

BNP hard-liners are refusing to accept the candidacy of Sharif Abdel Gawad on racial grounds, even though officials said he is a totally assimilated Greek-Armenian whose grandfather was a Christian, the Guardian newspaper reported Saturday.

Scores of party contributors have denounced Mr. Gawad's selection on online notice boards. They contend the BNP should remain an all-white party and the decision to appoint Gawad was made over the heads of rank and file members.

A BNP spokesman said those members who refused to accept Gawad have no place in the party.

In 2004 party leader Nick Griffin tired to force through a rules change allowing non-white people to join the BNP. After widespread opposition from members, leaders were forced to abandon the effort.

EP Delegates to Visit Jugha

Ten European Parliament officials are planning to give an investigative visit to the Armenian cemetery of Julfa (Jougha, Djulfa) between 17 and 21 April, 2006, A1+ reports. The decision was announced during a 6 April 2006 conference by the European Parliament leadership. The ancient cemetery was destroyed in December of 2005 by the Azerbaijani army and replaced by a rifle range.

The Azerbaijani government has continuously denied the evidence regarding the vandalism and has “ruled out” the possibility of any foreign visit to Julfa.

The delegates are as followed:

Mme Marie-Anne Isler-Béguin, présidente (Verts, France)
M. Arpad Duka-Zolyomi, vice-président (PPE, Slovaquie)
M. Alessandro Battilocchio (NI, Italie)
M. Johannes Blokand (IND/DEM, Pays-Bas)
Mme Frederika Brepoels (PPE, Belgique)
M. Robert Evans (PSE, R.-U.)
Mme Siiri Oviir (ALDE, Estonie)
Mme Gabriele Stauer (PPE, Allemagne)
M. Hannes Swoboda (PSE, Autriche)
M. Tadeusz Zwiefka (PPE, Pologne)

They have not received a permission from the Azerbaijani authorities to visit Julfa. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!

Oops…

A month ago I mentioned of an unidentified meeting where some Azerbaijani researchers talked about the Karabakh conflict including Azerbaijani government’s anti-Armenian propaganda.

Unfortunately, it seems the Azerbaijani government has learned about this, though this could be different case.

Telephone talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia discovered

[ 06 Apr. 2006 14:57 ]

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies had enough facts proving that there were telephone talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Minister Ali Abbasov told journalists about it (APA).

Saying that “These talks are heard by the National Security Ministry”, the Minister added the talks are under surveillance of security bodies.
Mr.Abbasov also confirmed that there are links, exchange of ideas and talks between Internet users of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“Probably, it is argue or propaganda. If these services are contrary to Azerbaijan’s national interests, the National Security Ministry will found it out. These links are watched to a certain extent. However, it is very difficult process. We supply the Security Ministry with necessary means,” The Minister concluded./APA/

Life Sentence for Safarov, not 30 years

Though the Azerbaijani media has reported that a Hungarian prosecutor “asked the Court for Ramil Safarov to be imprisoned for 30 years,” that is not the case.

As a Hungarian journalist* clarifies from Budapest, the persecutor has requested “life sentence with minimum 30 years of imprisonment.” This is way different from asking for “30 years.” The persecutor also demanded “lifelong ban, expulsion from Hungary” for Ramil Safarov.

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY February 19, 2004. Armenian citizen Gurgen Margaryan, 26 years old, was hacked to death while asleep by Ramil Safarov, a Lieutenant of the Azerbaijani Army. Both were participants of an English language training course within the framework of the NATO-sponsored “Partnership for Peace” program held in Budapest, Hungary.

I am not sure whether the last part means Safarov will be transferred to Azerbaijan to spend his sentence (which means letting him go free).

Blogian is Probably Right

One photographer has said, “Photographs don’t lie, but liars take photographs.” Every photograph is indeed subjective, because it has a certain subject. But if a subjective photograph captures people or cultural monuments being exterminated, I am for such kind of “biased photographs” (as the Azerbaijani government refers to the evidence showing their destructive policy against the Armenian heritage) because even human rights can be considered subjective.

I have this thing about photographs. I often engage in conversations with people who deny the accuracy of some photographs, let it be the Abu Ghraib atrocities, the Julfa vandalism or politician Kaloogian’s photo with Mount Ararat.

What I get irritated with is the fact that photographs, that are not pleasing somebody, get labeled “manufactured,” “fake,” or “Photoshop.” I don’t say there are not these kinds of things out there, but it is not as common as most people think.

Why Abu Ghraib? My “smart” sociology professor (about whom I once wrote) was discussing “cultural war” today and saying how bad the “bad guys are.” What about Abu Ghraib atrocities committed by our soldiers, I wondered. “Most of those photos were manufactured,” my professor responded. I confronted and said that even the Pentagon did not claim such a thing. I guess she understood she was wrong (though last week she was enthusiastically arguing that she had read 1800s literature where the word “genocide” was used despite my great efforts of trying to explain her that the term “genocide” was coined in 1944 by Raphael Lemkin!).

Well, my sociology instructor is not THAT off her mind. She says smart things too: for example, when she read my paper on “cultural genocide,” she said that I should “definitely become an author!” My psycho-racist philosophy professor Jeff Broome should be SO HAPPY that I was not blogging while taking his “Intro to Philosophy” class and learning about “Indian savageries against the poor white settlers.” Don’t you guys think I have problems with all of my professors; in fact it is just the opposite and most of them are really great teachers!

Getting back to the photographs. I don’t want to go into details of how Azerbaijani nationalists “dismiss” the photographs that show the ancient cemetery of Old Jugha (Julfa) being destroyed. I just want to gladly note that after I posted links to 48 several photos at an Azerbaijani forum, the forum users finally stopped saying that those were fake.

Getting back to Kaloogian. This is a Republican guy, with Armenian roots, who wants to become a congressman. He made a huge mistake and put Istanbul’s photo at his campaign website saying that was in Baghdad. Almost every single blogger in this world pointed out the fact and Kaloogian apologized for the mistake. Some people went ahead. Voch Me Ban posted Kaloogian’s photo with Mount Ararat at his background and joked whether this was Baghdad too. Some bloggers did the same thing but they did it seriously.

Dr. C. for example, posted a photo of Mount Ararat (taken from west Armenia – now Eastern Turkey) and alluded that this was another fabrication! After I posted some explanatory comments at Dr. C.’s blog, he said, “Alright, Blogian, you are probably right.”

Blogian’s big request to everyone: don’t argue with him about photographs unless you are Onnik Krikorian or Lewis Hine.

Turkey Swearing on Eurovision

Several bloggers and news agencies paid attention to the fact that Azerbaijan jealously politicized Armenia’s participation in the Eurovision song contest and got angry that Andre’s (the singer who represents Armenia) birthplace was mentioned as the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

As a result of official Azerbaijani complaints, Eurovision “hid” the fact that Andre was indeed born in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. The Azerbaijani government was backed by Azerbaijani and Turkish hackers, who hacked Andre’s official website posting anti-Armenian remarks.

Turkish singer Sibel Tuzun is set to represent Turkey at the Eurovision song contest in May of 2006, but her website carries anti-Armenian hate propaganda with links to a hatesite which calls Armenians “rodents”

Who was next to jump on Armenia? Turkey, indeed! What is Turkey’s role in the Eurovision contest? Well, apparently Turkey also has a representative at the song contest and apparently Turkey also has a website about their singer. What is wrong with that? Nothing, except for the part that the Turkish website carries heavy anti-Armenian propaganda with links to such hatesites as www.tallarmeniantale.com (which calls Armenians "rodents").

This was noticed by the Eurovision websites, oikotimes.com, esctoday.com and escsweden.com, who demanded the withdrawal of hate propaganda. The Turkish response? SWEARING!!!

Would you like a rose and info on Armenian terror?

I know today is April 1 (Fools Day) and I know that you expect blogian to make you laugh! Well, some people think I am too funny, others think I am too serious, depending on how much they know me.

Long story short, I just encountered the best April 1 story that one could ever imagine! Why do I call it “the best?” Because this story, at least the photos, are 100% real and because the person who organized this comedy believed he was doing the right thing for his people.

So this guy, according to his post in Russian at http://www.day.az/forum/index.php?showtopi…85&#entry694985, organized an “Action in the memory of the Azerbaijani genocide in Bern [Switzerland's capital]” on 31 March 2006.

Now, forget the fact that “the Azerbaijani genocide” is a newly evoking Azerbaijani myth to counter the Armenian Genocide and kiss Turkey’s [hairy] ass; forget that this guy is doing an illegal activity, since in Switzerland it is illegal to deny the Armenian Genocide. Simply look at the photos of the “action.”

Would you like a rose and information about savage Armenian terror against the poor Azerbaijani people?
