If someone had said to them(the survivors), by writing books, newspaper articles and letters to the editor, or by delivering speeches and sermons we may be able to persuade the Turks to apologize, they would have looked at him in silent astonishment as if to say: "Of the forty-four types of insanity I have heard about, this must be one of them."

You can put a listick on the word "genocide", thinking that it would turn into a mellower thing, such as transforming it to "mass deportation". Do whatever you want to do, we all know what the real intention was. It was to annihilate the whole nation of Armenians once and for all. It was to find a final solution to the poor beings who happened to be Armenians. Period.

A brave attempt at reconciliation, considering that there is no feeling in Turkey that any sort of apology is due to Armenians. Any movement forward or evolution of attitudes in Turkey on the genocide will look like this interview.

However there are issues with what the ambassador he said.
"... It is fact that they think that they were forcefully uprooted from the places where they were born and raised." Umm, mass deportations into the Syrian desert from almost all corners of the empire? Hello?! This contradicts his offer of Turkish citizenship to those affected. In other words uprooted. Aside from being simply killed off as well.

He should also compare Rwanda, Cambodia, Kosovo and the current Darfur to what happened. Those who observed it 1915 understood its purpose.

The "issue" of the term genocide being coined after 1915 is a red herring. This may mean there is no legal recourse under the genocide convention but historically, what other word can you use if the acts fit the definition?!
