i have thougth of renting a car in hayastan but as you said, its so expensive!

I don’t know if things have changed, as of a couple of years ago, a drivers license from the United States was valid in Armenia for the first 30 days of your visit, after that you need an international drivers license. This according to a cop that pulled me over a couple of weeks after I returned from Dubai. Reality is that most cops won’t say anything to a Diaspora Armenian with a license from the U.S. other than welcome to Armenia.
